Hysterectomy in uterine fibroids: an institutional survey pre and post COVID lockdown

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic had a tremendous effect on surgical practice and outcomes, especially in Gynaecology which led to an increase operative interferences like hysterectomies, is one of the most frequently performed procedures for uterine leiomyomas. Aim this study was determine impact covid lockdown hysterectomies AUB–L perimenopausal post-menopausal women based clinical, radiological, aspects. Methods: A retrospective who underwent hysterectomy AUB-L compared their findings pre COVID period (April 2019-March 2020) post year (July 2021-June 2022), at Department Obstetrics Gynaecology, SVS Hospital, Telangana. Results: post-covid group has significant severity clinical symptoms such as menorrhagia dysmenorrhea (VMSS-GRADE 2). Radiological (US AND MRI)-The size (>5cms) number (>2) fibroids increased significantly group. duration (1-3hrs), intraoperative blood loss (150-300ml), need transfusion (>24%), postoperative pain (VAS score 5), mean hospital stay (72-120hrs) were post-COVID attributable delay seeking medical advice due lockdown. Conclusions: This clearly states that worsening features, increasing turn time complications.
